Just read the article by Stephen Marche, and i totally agree about the whole thing!
It’s horrible that we prefer to watch our favorite celebrity die at a young age so we can feel better about ourselves, atleast the most of us! To watch michael jacksons daughter speak at her fathers memorial was awful, but at the same time we talked about it for a really long time, and turned it to something negative. But why do we like watching it? why is it so entertaining? I have no clue, maybe because they’re apart of our life?
For example Britney Spears, when she was depressed and all that about a year ago, people started webpages where they gessed how many days she had left. That’s awful! “we” didn’t want her to recover, we liked watching her doing all this crazy things. I actually blame people like us and papparazzis for all this!
Last lesson we talked about that Europe have warning textes on the cigarette packets.
In sweden we have those, I don’t know for how long we have had it, my opinion is that it’s wrong to mark packets.
I think that it won’t help people to quit smoking.I think it only makes it worse to force smokers to feel ashamed when they buy their cigarettes. I think it’s every persons own choice to smoke even though smoking kills.
In some countries they also have pictures of, for example, destroyed lungs. I’m just wonderning why they can’t put the money that it cost to have warning textes to instead put the money on better things?!
I’m from Sweden and I’ve been here for about two weeks I don’t have not been exposed to commercials in America.
What I do know now is that there is a huge difference between Sweden and the US.
The first thing is that thete is so much more commercials here, especially billboards. I think that we don’t have a lots of billboards in Sweden because we don’t drive as much as America’s do.
Another point is that in those two weeks I’ve been here I have seen like a million fast food commercials as well. The only fast food commercial I have seen on tv in Sweden is for Mcdonald’s, Burger King and Max, a fast food chain not in the US.
In Sweden, we have something called RTV, which has become big in advertising, I don’t know the name here, but it’s TVs in stores showing only commercials next to different products. Here in th US, it’s everywhere.
I think that newspapers and other types of print media are going to slowly fade out and not be used.
